Building Food and Nutrition Behaviors through Participatory Learning and Action (N-PLA)with the Development Support Centre (DSC)

About the Solution

This model developed by the  Development Support Centre (DSC) addresses issues related to malnutrition rates arising out of lack of information, prevalence of misinformation, and a high degree of migration. The loss of traditional knowledge coupled with low intake of certain essential food groups has severe consequences on development of children in these areas.

This solution aims at changing social behaviour towards nutrition, increasing knowledge & awareness, increasing the availability of nutritious food, restoring local practices of cultivating foods, building community level resilience in food and nutrition security, and lastly, encourage community action. This model has been implemented in multiple geographies of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra with more than 6000 anganwadi workers.

Development Support Center (DSC) is a resource organization that provides knowledge- based support to Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Corporate Houses (CSRs), Government Agencies, Community Based Organizations and other stakeholders in the field of Participatory Natural Resource Management (PNRM) and sustainable livelihoods. DSC works on issues of malnutrition among tribal communities in the Satpura and Aravalli ranges. DSC has have tested this model successfully in only Nandurbar and other partners under the Securing Nutrition, Enhancing Resilience (SENU) initiatives.
