Ibtada's Guide on How to Build a
Hi-tech nursery for flowers & vegetables

About the Solution

This guide by Ibtada provides a method for establishing a protected, hi-tech nursery to overcome the vulnerabilities of traditional open-air seedbeds. By using a simple green net shade and pro-trays with a specialized soil mixture, this system shields young saplings from extreme weather, animals, and disease. This controlled environment significantly improves germination rates, produces stronger and healthier seedlings for transplanting, and allows for better crop timing. It is a practical, climate-resilient strategy for small-scale flower and vegetable growers to ensure a more reliable and productive start to their cultivation cycle.

Ibtada is a not-for-profit, non-governmental development organisation working in the Mewat region of Rajasthan. It is a grassroots effort dedicated to mainstreaming deprived women in the region through organising, educating, and empowering them. They operate in 550 villages across 8 blocks of Alwar, 1 block of Bharatpur, and 1 block of Dausa districts in Rajasthan, as well as 2 blocks of Jhansi and 1 block of Chitrakoot in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. As part of its expansion efforts, Ibtada has recently begun interventions in Dausa and the Bundelkhand region.
